Indonesia's Ministry of Health is finalizing the implementation of Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024, which will impose strict, cigarette-equivalent controls on the vaping industry starting in July 2026.

    • Age Restrictions: Vaping will be strictly prohibited for anyone under the age of 21.
    • Marketing Limits: E-cigarette advertising will be heavily restricted, particularly on social media platforms.
    • Product Standards: Vapes must adhere to maximum nicotine limits, feature graphic health warnings, and exclude harmful additives.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health has announced preparations to enforce comprehensive e-cigarette regulations under Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024. This legislative move aims to regulate vaping products with the same stringency as conventional cigarettes, directly addressing growing public health concerns surrounding youth nicotine consumption.

Aji Muhawarman, Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Services, confirmed the upcoming rules will ban vaping in designated Smoke-Free Areas. With full implementation scheduled for July 2026, the government is currently drafting derivative ministerial decrees and launching public education campaigns alongside health organizations.

Medical experts emphasize that these steps are crucial for public safety. Prof. Dr. Faisal Yunus from Universitas Indonesia highlighted that easy access, appealing flavors, and youth-targeted marketing remain significant threats to adolescents.

He urged for continuous regulatory strengthening to protect vulnerable populations, pointing to global trends where countries are increasingly banning disposable vapes and restricting flavor profiles to curb youth adoption.
