ZYN is a Swedish brand of tobacco-free nicotine pouches, also known as nicotine pouches or tobacco-free snus. They offer two pouch formats - Slim and Mini, with 12 flavors and 4 nicotine strength options to choose from.
The pouches contain tobacco-derived nicotine salts and come in 4-gram moist portions. They are available in white plastic cans containing 15 pouches each.
The available nicotine strengths are 3 mg and 6 mg. ZYN can be purchased directly through their website, online retailers, and at various tobacco shops typically for around $4 per can.
ZYN Pouch Flavors Review
I tried multiple ZYN pouch flavors in both 3 mg and 6 mg strengths. Here is an overview of some of the standout flavors:
Black Cherry
The Black Cherry ZYN pouches have an initial aroma of sweet yet slightly tart cherries. Upon placing one in my mouth, the flavor starts off as pure sweet cherry, almost like a cherry candy.
As the pouch moistens, the flavor profile balances out after a couple minutes. It turns into a more natural cherry taste, with both sweet and tart cherry elements. I can discern actual cherry fruit flavors rather than just candy cherry.
The flavor lasts a good 30 minutes before fading. It leaves a pleasant aftertaste of cherry tartness on the back of my tongue rather than any chemical coat in my mouth.
Citrus
Of all the citrus flavored pouches I’ve tried, the ZYN Citrus stands out well above the rest. Rather than having a vague bitterness that some citrus pouches have, this one tastes like actual citrus fruits.
Immediately upon placing the pouch, I taste fresh lemon and lime flavors. The lime is more forward in the blend, with the lemon accentuating in the background. There is a balanced sweetness to the citrus fruits as well, reminiscent of eating fresh lemons and limes.
The citrus flavors come through consistently over about a 30 minute span before dropping off. One of the best fruited tobacco-free snus style pouches out there in my opinion.
Cinnamon
Unlike most cinnamon flavored pouches and dips, ZYN Cinnamon doesn’t have that strong artificial “Red Hots” style cinnamon candy taste. The first note I get is actual cinnamon spice, with hints of other baking spices like nutmeg and clove coming through.
As I keep the pouch in my lip, the cinnamon spice flavor remains consistent over time. There is less of that raw cinnamon “burn” compared to other cinnamon pouches. The flavor lasts over 30 minutes and leaves an enjoyable cinnamon aftertaste.
Cool Mint
Upon placing a Cool Mint ZYN pouch in my mouth, there is an initial strong burst of cool menthol flavor. It has that frosty sensation you expect from a mint style product. But it’s balanced by an underlying sweet peppermint tobacco flavor.
Over the 30-40 minute pouch duration, the profile evens out into a blend of menthol chill and candy-like peppermint. It avoids becoming too medication-like as some menthol pouches risk. This is one of best mint snus alternatives for a classic icy mint tobaccoless experience.
Overall ZYN Pouch Experience
I found the nicotine and flavor delivery from ZYN pouches to be above average. The kick comes within the first couple of minutes and I get about 30 minutes of use before wanting to discard each pouch.
The 6 mg option offers a noticeably stronger nicotine kick compared to the 3 mg. But I didn't find the 3 mg lacking either, especially for morning use.
A couple annoyances are that the pouches can get folded while moving them around and the nicotine cans are hard to open. But overall ZYN offers quality moist snus-like nicotine pouches and a varied flavor lineup.
I would recommend trying them, especially if you're looking for nicotine pouches focused on flavor variety over extreme nicotine strength. The flavors like Black Cherry, Citrus, Cinnamon, and Cool Mint were personal standouts for me.
